Industrial Hygiene specialist TES improves sampling reporting with myIH

Sampling and analysis are essential tools for occupational health and safety professionals to evaluate workplace contaminants and workers' exposure levels. With a mission to educate the next generation of EH&S professionals, Technical Environmental Services, Inc. (TES) understands the value of collecting great industrial hygiene field notes. The reliability of historical industrial hygiene data largely depends on supporting field observations, the questions and answers collected at the time of sampling. Or as TES calls it, ‘the ART of industrial hygiene’.

Implementation
To improve the consistency and quality of their field notes, TES decided to implement myIH into their daily routine, replacing traditional paper sampling with time-saving digital sampling. Chris Robertson, President and CEO, stated: “Teaching EH&S professionals how to collect the essential industrial hygiene data is easy. However, teaching EH&S professionals what observations to make and what questions to ask, is a more difficult task. myIH not only supports the collection of essential information, it also short circuits this ‘ART of industrial hygiene’, by allowing for custom built questions, tagged to projects. This guides the myIH user on what observations to make and what questions to ask while in the field collection the industrial hygiene samples. Using myIH, we experienced a minimum 20% efficiency gain. This efficiency gain can be tied to less mistakes, better field note collection information, and redundance reduction.”

Made by and for Industrial Hygiene Specialists
myIH provides an industrial hygiene field note collection script and it is a repository for industrial hygiene data. It prompts conditional questions to help EH&S practitioners know what questions to ask and what observations to make, depending on the sampling scenario. “myIH is also affordable”, adds Chris Robertson, “and built by industrial hygiene specialists, this high quality sampling tool is evident in the way a user flows through the system.”

myIH Features
With myIH, field notes are collected using a mobile, tablet, or desktop. It enables the user to add photos and notes. Additionally, myIH offers dropdown menus with predefined values supported by real-world data. Questions are prompted, and - unlike traditional paper forms where fields can be left blank - myIH fields are mandatory. Chris Robertson: “With all these features, the captured data is more consistent, complete, and relevant, resulting in improved and time-saving reporting.”
